SEARCH
A drake ring-necked duck, Aythya collaris, cruises the shoreline of a marsh in Southcentral Alaska in late April. These small diving ducks seek forage in relatively shallow ponds, estuaries, coastlines, marshes, sloughs and lakes. Despite the birds' name, the faint copper-colored ring around drakes' necks is visible only under perfect lighting conditions.
